First time
across the channel then.
Seems so long ago now. I flew Xray-Kilo
(C172) out, with Jim on the right and Jo in the back, instructors both, help!
A beautiful day, but the channel crossing was very murky. It was a distinct
relief when the French coast appeared. This was probably the usual five minutes
after leaving Dover, but at the time it seemed like three days.
Rent bikes and cycle into town, omelette and chips at the beach cafe. It seems
natural now, but it was an all new experience then. We circus veterans (of three
trips!) take this in our stride these days.
Jim flies back, with
his usual casual navigation. I get to do the radio, which is a challenge as Jim
rejects the frequency change Le Touquet give him and Manston get fed up of being
asked about a danger zone that is not their responsibility.
Still
we arrive back, ready to do it again!
