Judging by the photographs, participants on this excursion where
myself (Rob), David, Jane, Nick, Pat, Jim, Steve M, and I am pretty certain that
Lee and his girlfriend made up the numbers. The aircraft were GBXXK (172), GBNDO,
GBXJM (both 152) and GBCDY (150 aerobat). I know David flew Juliet-Mike to
Calais, as I was sitting next to him; Jane and Nick flew Delta-Oscar; neither
Steve M or Pat are 172 pilots (correct me please if I am wrong), so they must
have flown Delta-Yankee, and Lee would have flown Xray-Kilo with Jim, and his
Lee's girlfriend in the back.
That sorted, I recall David climbing to some 5000ft to cross the
channel while tuning the ADF to Capital Gold for entertainment (The Rolling
Stones, Have you Seen Your Mother Baby). A stroll into town after landing
revealed that ostensibly Calais is closed on Sundays. Fortunately the airfield
restaurant was open and Jane speaks French.
So after coffee and Kit-Kat's back we went. Me flying Xray-Kilo
and setting a course of zero degrees (360) instead of 330 and heading for
Norway. Lee came to my rescue by gently suggesting (several times) that I look
at the map on his GPS. 270 degrees to Dover and back on course.
Anyway, I had bought a new camera that week so some photos!
Enjoy.
