'We
must go to Nottingham', she said.
'Lots
of the Flyer Forum crowd are going to be there this Sunday', she said.
'It
would be good to meet up with them', she said.
So
to keep her quiet the HFC decided to go to Nottingham, a new to all
airfield and within a reasonable distance.
The
normal gathering together, checking out aircraft, fuelling up aircraft,
looking at the weather, looking at the wind, checking who has been
allocated to which seat. It was agreed that the destination was
Nottingham Tollerton and not any of the other local airfields. Check the
wind again.
The
aircraft set off. That
cross wind for northbound to Haverhill was as strong as the TAF
indicated, nose into wind on 346 rather than track of 001.
Chug, chug. Turn
right at Haverhill, not much difference between track and heading but a
large difference between IAS and ground speed.
Follow the A14 for part of the way.
Hey that tanker down there is overtaking us!
Chug,
chug past Graffham water, chug along and that should be Leicester over
on the left. We are slowly
getting there. Wonder how
the others are doing. Just
about there, time to call up Nottingham.
Things get slightly confusing as we have to wait and seem to be
forgotten, do a largish orbit, now where has the airfield gone. Finally
after a little prompting that we exist we join the circuit, accept that
there is a bit of wind and settle nicely onto the runway and so to
parking and the clubhouse.

Juliet-Mike arrives at Tollerton, eventually ...
But
where is this large crowd of Forumites.
Seems they have already grabbed a vehicle and gone for a nosh up
somewhere. Tollerton
airfield does not offer much. 'She'
goes over to chat to a couple of lone EGMC forumites who seem to have
missed the bus.
Check
on the winds. About turn
for home. The wind has not
changed although there is quite a strong sun making the landscape a bit
difficult to differentiate at times.
Who just passed rather close overhead. Was that Leicester that we
passed so quickly? Graffham
water to the right. Looks like Wyton down there.
Pass Cambridge onto the home run.
2 hours to get there. 1
hour to get back.
So
another airfield into our books. All
good experience and great to have done something at the end of December.
